WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

October 2nd at Cleveland Indians

Sox Magic Number:
"Our Sox made sure that Cleveland was not only down...but OUT!"

Short Take: Now that the Cleveland Indians' ship is completely sunk, our beloved Palehose face the task of taking on the defending champion Red Sox in the first "battle of the Soxes" in the history of MLB postseason.

Total ownage. That's what you call it when a team wins all but one series against a team, sweeps two series on the road against that team, wins 14 of their 19 meetings with that team, and sends that team home for the offseason without a mere sniff of the playoffs. Our beloved White Sox took everything from the Cleveland Indians this season, including their lunch money! In a must-win game for Cleveland, Chicago got on the board early and held them down for the entire game, winning Game # 162 of the season 3-1.

The first three innings gave our Sox the only scoring they would need for this one. Jermaine Dye homered before Cleveland even got a chance to bat to give them a quick 1-0 lead. After Aaron Rowand and AJ Pierzynski hit back-to-back singles, Joe Crede drove Rowand in giving us a 2-0 lead the very next inning. Tadahito Iguchi hit a liner over Grady Seizemore's head, making it all the way to third base, and Paul Konerko sacrificed him in to complete the scoring for our beloved. The Sox had a 3-0 lead, and now Cleveland fans could only sit there and begin to gnaw at their own fingernails, watching this one slip away from them.

Our Sox gave the Indians a token run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez lead off with back-to-back doubles to dent their score card. But, that was all the scoring our Sox would allow against them. In the final three frames, no more scoring occurred, and the 3-1 lead turned into our Sox' 99th victory of the season.

And so, this season concludes with our beloved White Sox finishing with a 99-63 record and a commanding six-games ahead of the once surging Indians, and, most importantly, home field advantage THROUGHOUT the post season. The great Hawk Harrelson says it best: "You win 60, you lose 60. It's what happens in the other 42 that counts." Well, in those "other 42" games, our beloved Palehose finished 39-3. THAT, my friends, is what I like to call "getting it done!"

It is now time to focus on the POST SEASON, where the Good Guys are set for a first-round series with the defending champions, the Boston Red Sox. This series will most likely be determined by how our pitching handles their hitting. Hopefully Ozzieball comes alive in this series, and we can go up in this series 2-0 before heading to Fenway Park next weekend. Those of us fortunate to have a ticket to this series, get to the gate as soon as you possibly can. Game time is 3 pm Chicago time and can be seen on ESPN. For those of you in Chicagoland, you can see it on WGN as well. Look to Comcast Sports Net Chicago for both the pre-game and post-game shows including our very own "Beltin" Bill Melton!

Good luck in the post season, White Sox! We are all behind you as you go for the World Series title!

Ozzieball Update:
Ozzieball wasn't very apparent today; however, it really wasn't needed, as our pitching got it done.
