2005 A.L. CENTRAL CHAMPS!!!!!!

September 29 at Detriot

How many Grinders did KW use today:
All of 'em!
"Why not? Sox fans knew, nobody else did. The SOX are back in the playoffs!!!!!"

Short Take:  A 4-2 win over the Tigers makes our White Sox A.L. Central Champions!!!!

It started with a 1-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians on April 4, 2005. Mark Buehrle threw a eight inning shut out as the Sox showed everyone what they were going to be all about this year.

As the months went on the Sox lead in the central grew to what looked like a lead that would have the Sox cruise into the postseason. You know the story, on August 1st the Sox had a 15 game lead in the divison and everything looked pointed to a postseason birth. But, things got a bit interesting. The second half of the season started with a four game sweep over the Cleveland Indians. But, the Indians started to play like our Sox did in the first half, while the Sox started to play .500 ball. The Sox lead fell to just 1 1/2 games just last Thursday. Some Sox fans and especially the media were ready to write the Sox off. The final home series of the year over the defending three time divison winners Minnesota Twins was all our Sox needed. Taking the series three out of four the lead grew and the magic number shrunk leading to what we are all celebrating today... our second Central Division Title.

Freddy Garcia matched up against "Sox 2004 castoff" Jason Grilli. The game was highlighted by Paul Konerko's 40th home run of the season that put the South Siders up 4-0 in the sixth inning. Carl Everett hit his second triple in two days knocking in two runners in the first inning. Bobby Jenks came in the ninth with a 4-2 lead and quickly made things interesting by letting the first two batters on base. But, Jenks was able to get Demitri Young and Curtis Granderson to strike out. Placido Polanco came up with the tying runs on base and lined one right to Paul Konerko who made a jumping catch for the final out of the game to make official what everyone already knew... the Sox are 2005 A.L. Central Champions!

The Sox will bring the celebration to Cleveland tomorrow as they meet for the final three games of the regular season. With the divison clinched, the Sox will look to knock the Indians out of the Wild Card race when Mark Buerhle will match up against Kevin Milwood. Game time is at 6:05 and the game will be on Comcast SportsNet.

Ozzieball Update:
It worked in the regular season, hopefully Ozzieball will bring us a World Series title!
