Clayton hit streak ends, Rauch pitches well

March 25th, from MLB.com

David Eckstein, Tim Salmon and Bengie Molina each had two hits and Scott Schoeneweis allowed one run in six innings as the Anaheim Angels beat the Chicago White Sox, 9-3, Monday afternoon at Tucson Electric Park.

Dan Wright ponders why he gave up 6 runs.

(AP, Ted S. Warren)

Sox starter Dan Wright breezed through the first three innings, facing two over the minimum, before allowing six hits and six runs in the fourth inning.

Wright pitched into the fifth but was removed after walking the first two hitters and finished having given up nine hits, seven runs and three walks without striking out a batter.

Tim Salmon, Garrett Anderson and Darin Erstad each had doubles in the Angels' big inning, and Adam Kennedy added a two-run triple.

Paul Konerko went 3-for-3 to raise his spring average to .500 (32-for-64). LHP Mike Porzio continued to impress in his bid to make the Sox staff, throwing a scoreless inning for the second straight day and lowering his spring ERA to 1.93.

White Sox watch: RF Aaron Rowand threw out Salmon at home plate trying to score on Anderson's single. ... After Frank Thomas' fourth-inning homer, the Sox loaded the bases with one out but Sandy Alomar hit into a fielder's choice and Royce Clayton flied out. ... RHP Jon Rauch gave up four hits and four walks in four innings of relief. ... Royce Clayton's hitting streak ended at 18 games with an 0-for-1 afternoon. He had hit in every spring game he played in until going hitless Monday. ... The Sox haven't won back-to-back game since winning beating the Cubs March 8, and then sweeping split-squad games the following day. Chicago is 8-17-1 in Cactus League play.
