McCarthy plows through Red Sox nation!

September 5 at Boston

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"McCarthy deals all afternoon, gets help by the offense."

Short Take:  The Sox continue to dominate in September, Brandon McCarthy, again, shuts down a high power team and the Sox score every which way over the Red Sox!

Brandon McCarthy continued where he left off in Texas this afternoon by shutting down Boston's high powered offense and sliencing the Red Sox nation while the White Sox dismantled Curt Shilling in a 5-3 win to pick up the make-up game on this Labor Day holiday.

With one out in the fourth inning, Paul Konerko doubled and advanced to third on a ground out by Aaron Rowand. Cluch hitter Timo Perez, who got the start in right today, singled Konerko in to make it a 1-0 Sox lead. The next inning, Geoff Blum singled to start the fifth off and scored on Juan Uribe's double off the top of the green monster. Scott Podsednik advanced Uribe to third base on a sac bunt. Ozzie then got creative and had Tadahito Iguchi lay down a perfect bunt executing a perfect suicide squeeze on the first pitch scoring Uribe making it a 3-0 Sox lead. Paul Konerko led off the sixth inning and killed a Shilling offering into the seats on top of the green monster for a solo shot making it 4-0.

While our Sox were finding ways to score, Brandon McCarthy made Red Sox hitters look foolish all afternoon. He only allowed three hits in his seven innings of work and had a career high seven strike outs for the day.

Juan Uribe added some more breathing room when hit launched a solo home run in the ninth inning. Good thing too becuase with Bobby Jenks pitching in the ninth, things got a tad interesting. After Tadahito Iguchi botched a ground ball, there were two runners on base with two outs for Tony Graffanino. Tony G. made it 5-3 with a long home run to give Red Sox fans a glimmer of hope, but that was it. Konerko made a great pick at first base on a hit by Gabe Kapler for the final out of the game.

So even though the teams didn't want to play today, one group of guys are happy they did. The Sox remain perfect in September improving to 85-51 and now will head back home to start a three game series to take on the Kansas City Royals. Orlando Hernandez will go up against Jose Lima for the Royals. Game time is at 7:05pm and the game will be televised on Comcast Sports Net.

Ozzieball Update:
What didn't work, well, Podsednik was picked off at first today and a few other base running blunders. The sac bunts worked and a perfect squeeze play to cap the day off.
