Getting Back On Track

August 24 at Minnesota

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"Buehrle pitches an excellent game, Iguhci, Everett, and Dye take care of the run support."

Short Take:  Carl Everett leads the offensive attack while Mark Buehrle cruised all night in this 6-4 win!

Coming into tonight's game the Sox had lost eight of their last nine and was coming off last night's game in which Freddy Garcia gave up one hit (A HR) in a 1-0 loss. Tonight, the 2005 team that we've come to know and love showed up with great pitching and defense and timely hitting to shut the Twins fans up and gain a game in the AL Central standings.

Carl Everett started the attack on Joe Mays in the first inning when he launched a two run home run to the upper deck in right field to make it a quick 2-0 Sox lead. With the way Buehrle was pitching, that would be enough. Through the first five innings. Buehrle was flat out dealing. He scattered two hits, which were all erased on double plays. When he didn't give up a hit, Buehrle retired the Twins order 1-2-3.

The Sox added to their lead in the fifth inning. Timo Perez started it off with a bunt single and Tadahito Iguchi doubled moving Perez to third. Carl Everett hit a bloop single scoring Perez and Iguchi to make it 4-0 Sox. After Konerko flew out, A.J. Pierzysnki launched a ball to the wall in left center that split the outfielders that allowed Everett to try to score, but he was thrown out on a close play at the plate. The relay allowed A.J. to move into third base and then score on a Jermaine Dye double making it 5-0 Sox. The Sox added another run in the sixth inning on a sac fly by Iguchi scoring Timo Perez making it 6-0 Sox.

The Twins had a chance to get on the board in their half of the sixth. With one out and runners on second and third Nick Punto lined one to Dye in right field for the second out, Mike Redmond, the runner at third, attempted to score but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw by Jermaine Dye to double up the Twins. Matthew LeCroy got the Twins in the run column in the seventh. He hit his third home run in two games off Buehrle to center field making it a 6-1 Sox lead.

The ninth inning came and the Twins lived up to their pesky name. Nick Punto hit a two run homer off of Cliff Politte making it a 6-3 Sox lead. After Politte got Abernathy to fly out, Damaso Marte came in. On the first pitch to Joe Mauer, Mauer singled up the middle. Mauer was Marte's man and Marte couldn't get the job done. Dustin Hermanson came in and the first pitch to Matthew LeCroy was lined to right field for an RBI-double scoring Mauer cutting the Sox lead to 6-4. The Twins fans then got even louder as Lew Ford came up to bat and the fans started their "Leeeeeew!" call. It didn't work. Leeeeeeew flew out to Aaron Rowand for the second out. Last weeks hero for the Twins Michael Cuddyer batted next and on a full count lined one to Timo Perez and Perez found the ball in the lights and made the catch to end the game!

Whew! The 6-4 win brings the Sox record to 76-47. Mark Buehrle also improves to 14-6 and credit Dustin Hermanson with his 31st save of the season. Tomorrow is a 12:10pm start and Jon Garland will try to match what Garcia and Buehrle have done this series. Garland will go up against Carlos Silva and the game can be seen on Comcast SportsNet.

Ozzieball Update:
A home run by Everett, but the offense stacks hits together to add some runs, and a sac fly scored the last run. Ozzie ball was in full force tonight!
