Crede and Ginter head back to Charlotte

March 25th, from the Associated Press

Chicago White Sox third baseman Joe Crede, hitting .380 this spring, was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

The move was one of six the White Sox made, bringing their roster to 28 players a week before opening day. Reliever Rocky Biddle, still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Right-hander Matt Ginter and catcher Miguel Olivo also were optioned to Charlotte, while infielder Tim Hummel was reassigned to minor league camp. Waivers were requested on outfielder Brian Simmons for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

None of the moves was a surprise. Biddle, 7-8 last season with a 5.39 ERA, just started throwing in the bullpen Wednesday. Although Crede is expected to be Chicago's third baseman of the future, there isn't room for him right now.

Jose Valentin will play third this season, and the White Sox have veterans Tony Graffanino and Jeff Liefer as backups.
