WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Hanging On In Cleveland

July 16 at Cleveland

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"RBI doubles by Crede, Konerko, Everett, Pierzynski. Buehrle dominates Tribe, Dye with a RBI and SB leading to a run. Rowand scoring three of the seven runs."

Short Take:  Indians show signs of life in the ninth but the Sox hold on to a 7-5 win. The Sox record ups to 60-29, and Mark Buehrle picks up his 11th win of the season.

The Sox take the third straight against the Indians in this four game series. Mark Buehrle and Jake Westbrook dueled again today just like how the 2005 season began. But today wouldn't fare well for Westbrook, and Buehrle was his normal self shuting down the Indians again while the Sox work over Westbrook at Jacob's Field.

With two outs in the second inning, Jermaine Dye was hit by a pitch which would set off home plate umpire Bruce Dreckman to give warnings to both benches after Buehrle hit Travis Hafner in the first inning. Dye stole second and scored when Joe Crede hit a RBI double down the third base line. The Sox made it 3-0 in the third inning. Again, with two outs, Aaron Rowand singled and scored on Carl Everett's double. Paul Konerko batted next and doubled in Everett. In the fifth inning, the Sox broke the game open. Scott Podsednik and Rowand started the inning with back to back singles. Everett advanced both runners with a ground out to first, Westbrook then thought it would be a good idea to intentionally walk Konerko and get A.J. to ground into a double play. Well, Westbrook didn't think the defense behind him would let him down. Well, they did. A.J. Pierzynski reached on a error by Ronnie Belliard which scored Podsednik and Rowand moving Konerko to third. Dye then grounded into a force out scoring Konerko making it 6-0 Sox.

Buehrle was dealing this afternoon. In the first three innings Buehrle struck out five with three of the K's were looking. Buerhle gave up two runs in the fifth after the first two batters reached second and third base and scored on a few run scoring ground outs.

The Sox made it 7-2 in the seventh, Aaron Rowand singled and stole second, and scored on Pierzynski's RBI-double.

The rain came down in the eighth inning delaying the Sox victory. But, after a thirty minute delay, baseball was played and Neal Cotts came in and pitched a scoreless frame. Oh but a ninth inning did have to be played. Shingo came in the ninth. He got a quick two outs but failed to nail the game down. He walked the next two batters and Aaron Boone came up and hit a RBI-single. Before Shingo could get this one out of hand, Ozzie pulled him and called on Luis Vizcaino. He walked Victor Martinez to load the bases. Exit "The Wiz" enter Damaso Marte. The first batter Marte faced was Grady Sizemore. Sizemore singled which scored Ronnie Belliard and Aaron Boone making it 7-5 Sox. Coco Crisp was next and grouned out to end the game. Whew! That was not necessary.

With the win, the Indians fall 14 games behind our Sox. Ending any half-hearted hopes to catch the Pale Hose. The Sox improve to 29-5 against AL Central teams. Tomorrow the Sox look to pull off a four game sweep of their foes. Jon Garland (13-4 3.38) takes the mound against Scott Elarton. (6-3 4.72) Game time is at 12:05pm and it will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Ozzieball Update:
Sox pound four RBI-Doubles,four two-out RBI's, and two steals turn into runs.
