Messing With Texas

May 17 vs. Rangers

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"Another convincing win by Garland, Iguchi, Rowand, Konerko w/ grinder like RBIs. AJ is finding swing, and Podsednik steals two bases and has 2 of the 5 runs."

Short Take:  Another solid outing by Jon Garland, Sox come up with a huge 5-2 win to break the 3-game losing streak.

Jon Garland probably had his most convincing outing of 2005 tonight as he battled the Texas Rangers; he kept the Sox in the game, and the Sox bats didn't quit. The Sox win 5-2, and Garland wins another game to improve his record to 8-0!

The Sox went up 2-0 after the first inning, Scott Podsednik lead off with a single and then stole his 24th bag of the season, he advanced to third when Tadahito Iguchi hit a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Aaron Rowand's double. Rowand would score after he stole third and came home on Paul Konerko's ground out.

Garland was on cruise control through the first four innings and gave up one run to make it 2-1 Sox in the 5th. Lance Nix tripled and then scored on a Richard Hidalgo single. The Sox got that run back in their half of the 5th. With two outs, Scott Podsednik, again, reached base on his fifth double of the season, he scored on Iguchi's single to make it 3-1 Sox.

The first test of the game for Garland was in the 6th inning. It looked like Garland was going to give "the big inning" but he battled and left two runners in scoring position while only giving up a run. The inning started off with a lead off walk to David Dellucci, Michael Young followed with a hit by pitch. Mark Teixeira doubled and that scored Dellucci to make it 3-2 Sox, and put Young on thrid. Garland then got it together and left them right there. Hank Blalock and Alfonso Soriano struck out, and last night's killer Kevin Mench didn't get to toss his bat and grin today, he flew out to end the threat.

The Sox gave Jon and Sox fans some breathing room in their half of the 6th, Jermaine Dye singled with two outs, and AJ Pierzynski homered to put the Sox up 5-2. Garland pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning for his finale. Last night's rally killer Damaso Marte came in and redeemed himself by holding the lead for the Sox, and Dustin Hermanson came in to pitch the 9th. Hermanson got a quick two outs, but then got a little too excited and walked two straight Texas hitters. But, he would keep his ERA at 0.00 and end the game by getting ex-Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. to fly out.

The 5-2 win puts the Sox at a record of 28-12. Tomorrow, the Sox hope to win this series when Mark Buehlre (6-1 3.73ERA) and Ryan Drese (3-3 6.14ERA) go at it with a 1:05pm game time. If you're a "bad Sox fan" and can't make it to a Wednesday afternoon game, it will be televised on WGN.

Ozzieball Update:
Two stolen bases by Scott Podsednik lead to runs, Iguchi can do it all too, a home run last night, today a sac bunt... can he do middle relief?
