How "Aboot" Them Sox, Eh?

May 8th at Toronto

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"Pedro Lopez gets one chance to contribute before heading back to Charlotte."

Short Take: Sox tip Jays in finale, walk away with sweep

Last season, the Chicago White Sox got off to a hot start, but their early May trip north of the border cooled them right off as they were swept out of Toronto by the Blue Jays. In further proof that there's something different in the air this year, the Sox and their MLB-best record head up to Toronto and walk away with a 3 game sweep of the Blue Jays following today's 5-4 win on a sunny afternoon at the Rogers Centre.

Sox ace Mark Buerhle took the bump today, and turned in yet another solid 7+ inning performance to pick up his fifth win of the season. The big lefty fanned four and gave up nine hits while walking just two. Perhaps the biggest disappointment for Buehrle watchers today was that the game took a lot longer than a typical Buehrle outing, clocking in at over two and a half hours. Buehrle would give way to the stellar bullpen combination of Dustin Hermanson and Damaso Marte, who pitched two frames of one-hit shutout ball to preserve the win.

The Sox offense got all their scoring done early on today against Gustavo Chacin, who some baseball pundits have already dubbed the next Freddy Garcia. Today, he looked like a poor man's Garcia at best. Juan Uribe jumped all over a Chacin fastball in the first and launched it over the 114 metre sign in left centre to give the Sox yet another first-inning lead. In the following frame, Aaron Rowand leads off with with a sharp single, and the suddenly red-hot Jermaine Dye rips a home run immediately after. The Sox would pick up twio more runs in the fourth on a Joe Crede sac fly which scored Rowand and a Pedro Lopez single that brought AJ Pierzynski home all the way from second base.

The Jays mustered all ther runs in the fourth, taking advantage of a walk and back to back hits to load the bases. Alexis Rios rips a sure double play ball at Uribe, but Juan pulled a page from the Jose Valentin school of shortstopping and boots the ball. The bases stay loaded, and after an RBI single from Gregg Zaun, Uribe botches another double play attempt by throwing the ball well wide of Paul Konerko, scoring two more runs.

The Sox head south to Florida for a three-game set against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Tropicana Field. Freddy Garcia takes the ball in the opener against Hideo Nomo, with first pitch slated for 6:05 CDT.

Ozzieball Update:
 Really not much to report.
