WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Back to normal in Oakland

April 26 at Oakland

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"Iguchi with 2 RBI's, and Widger and Podsednik each with one. Just going to have to come back and 'em tomorrow."

Short Take: Winning streak ends at 8 as Sox get sloppy and lose to the A's 9-7.

Coming into tonight's game the Sox had baseball's best record of 16-4, they had a 5 game lead in the AL Central, and a 8 game winning streak. But, all teams have their off nights and this one was certainly one of them. It looked good for a while but turned ugly. The Sox sent their ace Mark Buehrle to the mound against Rich Harden who before tonights game posted a ERA of 0.44 in three stars. The Sox knew they had their work cut out for them, but got on the board early and also got in his head.

The Sox scored in the 1st, Paul Konerko had a RBI single that scored Tadahito Iguchi to make it 1-0. The Sox would make the most out of their scoring oppertunities in the 4th inning as well, with Dye at third and Rowand at second, Juan Uribe would single in Dye to make it 2-0 Sox. The next batter Chris Wedger singled and scored Rowand to make it 3-0 Sox. Harden started to lose his cool, in the 5th inning with two outs, he hit Everett (which looked on purpose) and two wild pitches advanced him to third. The next batter Konerko walked, but, ex-A's star Jermaine Dye killed a possible scoring chance by lining out to end the threat.

Mark Buehrle's 5th didn't start off very well, and it didn't end pretty either. The A's took a 4-3 lead off RBI singles from Marc Kotsay, Eric Chavez, and Bobby Kielty. The Sox fought back though, they scored 4 runs in their half of the 6th to make it 7-3 Sox and would take that lead to the bottom of the 7th.

Eric Byrners lead off and singled and advanced to second on Jason Kendall's base hit. Eric Chavez would get the A's scoring train moving when he hit a RBI double to score Byrnes. Buehrle would be done for the night after that and gave the ball to Marte. He got Bobby Kielty to ground out which would score Jason Kendall and move Chavez to third. With two outs Marte was called for a balk that scored Chavez which tied the game 7-7!

This one just wasn't meant to be. With one out, Jermaine Dye would botch a ball to let Marco Scutaro move to second base and eventually score the go ahead run for the A's when pinch hitter Erubiel Durazo hit a infield signle off new NON- reliever Luis Vizcaino. The A's played for two runs in their 8th to make it 9-7 and won the game by that score.

With the loss, the Sox record falls to 16-5. That still ain't bad folks! They now hold a 4 game in the AL Central. There's no time to cry over this one Sox fans. Tomorrows game has a 2:35pm start and they will look to start a new winning streak with Freddy Garcia (2-1 3.21ERA) against Kirk Saarloos (1-1 6.30ERA). It can be seen on Comcast Sports Net.

Ozzieball Update:
