Sox dominate Tigers

April 20 at Detriot

How many Grinders did KW use today:
"Everyone in the starting lineup had a hit except for Everett, he made up for it with a RBI sac fly. Dye with 4 RBI's, and of course our 5th starter."

Short Take:  Jon Garland turns in another good preformance and the Sox bats take care of the rest.

Lets face it, the Sox have had their problems while playing in Detriot the past few years. But tonight the Sox looked to end their woes in the motor city and they got off to a running start as they take the first game in this quick two game set against the Tigers 9-1.

Jon Garland took the mound today and looked just as good as he did last Friday when he was perfect through 6 1/3 innings, if that was even possible. There was no shortage of runs tonight either, the Sox came out right away to back up their "5th starter."

The Sox scoring started in the 1st, Scott Podsednik lead off on a infield single, advanced to second on Everett's ground out, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to make it a quick 1-0 Sox lead. Paul Konerko then walked and Jermaine Dye launched a 2-run home run to make it 3-0 Sox.

The Tigers lone run came in the 3rd inning. Omar Infante lead off and doubled and advanced to third on Nook Logan's sacrifice bunt. Brandon Inge then doubled to score Infante to make it 3-1 Sox.

The Sox got that run back and more in the 5th. Again, Podsednik singled and stole second and advanced to third on Iguchi's single. Carl Everett flew out to center which scored Podsednik to make it 4-1 Sox. Konerko was next and hit a ground rule double to right holding up the running Iguchi. Jermaine Dye then singled which scored Iguchi and Konerko making it 6-1 Sox. Looks like all JD needed was a little rest.

The Sox bats didn't want to go away, in the 6th, after Rowand struck out, Juan Uribe and Chris Widger hit back to back singles. "The hot hitting third basemen that could" Joe Crede poped a pitch up in foul ground but Carlos Gullien couldn't make the play to record the second out, you know what that means, Crede made it hurt, he crushed the next pitch for a 3-run home run that made it 9-1 Sox.

The Sox bats were on fire today, but so was Jon Garland. He uped his record to 3-0 while making the Tigers look like little leaugers that can't hit the ball even though its on a tee. Garland only scattered 5 hits while giving up 1 run.

The Sox record now stands at 11-4, their best 15-game start since 1981. Tomorrow, Mark Buehrle (2-1 2.25ERA) against Jeremy Bonderman (2-1 3.86ERA) at 12:05pm. The game will be televised on WGN.

Ozzieball Update:
Everything was on cruise control tonight, home runs, sac fly's, base hits account for all the runs. Small ball and long ball can get along!
