Short Take: Tonight, Sox can't claw back from deficit

After rolling over and giving the division to the Twins on a silver platter, the Chicago White Sox mysteriously managed to find some spunk and start winning ballgames in the late innings, bumping off Minnesota and Kansas City 3 times in a row with late inning heroics. But tonight, the Sox were fresh out of miracles even though they tried to make a game out of it late, losing to Kansas City 8-6.

Freddy Garcia didn't dominate tonight, but didn't wet the bed either, turning in a very average, albeit short, outing. Freddy scatters 4 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings while fanning 6. Felix Diaz, Jeff Bajenaru and Arnie Munoz fail to keep the Royals from getting on the board, surrendering 4 more runs between the 3 of them.

Sox offense got some power tonight, fueled by home runs from Carlos Lee with a 2-run shot in the first inning, and a solo shot from Juan Uribe in the 3-run 3rd inning, which put the Sox back on top after the Royals scored 3 in the top half. But then, Kansas City kept hitting, and the Sox bats fell silent until the 9th, when they trailed 8-4 before their last at bat. Jamie Burke and Joe Borchard both hit to get on, and Joe Crede brings them home with a double. Unfortunately, Aaron Rowand can't get a bunt down and Juan Uribe can't hit out of the infield, ending the game on a double play.

The Sox and Royals play the second-to-last game of the season at US Cellular tomorrow at 6:05, with Denny Bautista facing Mark Buehrle.

Ozzieball Update:
Can't get a crucial bunt down. What else is new?
