Glover impressive in 11-5 win over Oakland

March 16th, from the Associated Press

Kenny Lofton had three hits and drove in two runs, and Willie Harris was 4-for-5 with a two-run, first-inning homer and three RBIs as the Chicago White Sox beat an Oakland Athletics split squad 11-5 Saturday.

Lofton stole a pair of bases, raising his team-leading total to eight.

``If he continues to play as well as he has ... he's running well, getting the big hit, coming out with that good fight right off the bat,'' Chicago manager Jerry Manuel said ``That sets us up to really score some runs. He's been tremendous so far.''

Harris was playing in place of second baseman Ray Durham, who has an ingrown toe nail. Harris also stole a base as he pushes to gain a roster spot.

``I can only play the game as hard as I can,'' he said. ``If that's not good enough then I don't know what else I can do.''

Winner Gary Glover allowed two runs in five innings, both unearned. Loser Allen Levrault gave up nine runs and 12 hits in 3 1-3 innings.

Frank Thomas went 2-for-5, while Jose Valentin and Josh Paul each added two hits. Chicago had 16 hits in all.

Mario Valdez, Rob Ryan and Luis Lopez each had two hits for the A's.
