Return of the Long Ball!

September 26th Vs Kansas City

Today's temperature:
"The water's gone from boiling to just super hot--win all you want this late in the season, Jerry's still a dead man walking."

Short Take: Why couldn't we do this a week ago?

The last weekend of the season is upon us...and for some reason the Sox have to send us a reminder of what could have been with an ofensive performance that hasn't been seen in quite a while. Sox paste the Royals 11-2 and play for pride, moving into sole possession of 2nd place in the AL Central. Second place means forst loser..but I guess that's the best we can hope for at this point.

Last Sunday, Jon Garland took the mound against these very same Royals and was chased early, enduring a barrage of base hits and boos before heading to the shower after a little over 2 innings of work. Tonight, Jon the Bulldog makes his return, and guts out 8 innings of solid baseball, giving up just 1 run and 3 hits. Can big Jon carry this momentum over to next year? Or was this just a late season fluke? Let's hope this guy can carry some of his momentum from tonight on into next April and start next season on the right track. Tom Gordon works an inning of relief and gives up just one run. Poor Flash is surely suffering from a case of deadarm after eating countless innings that should have belonged to Billy Koch. Sox fans, should we bring this seasoned vet back for more next year?

Glorious night for the Sox offense tonight as they score 11 runs on 11 hits. Joe Crede continues to show that his maturing process is completing, going 3 for 4 on the night. But the bulk of the runs come on home runs from Jose Valentin, who makes his bid for an extension with a grand slam , and a 2 run blast from Carlos Lee. Frank Thomas adds his 42nd homer of the season (putting him one short of his career high)...but it came with no one on base, just like his first 20 of this year. Frank can obviously still hit...let's keep this guy around and let him finish up in pinstripes.

Second to last game of the season is tomorrow at Kauffman Staduim. Bartolo Colon takes on Jamey Wright.

Tinkerer Update:
Graffy at 2nd, C Lee bats cleanup. Only 2 chances to tinker left!
