Cell-House Rock!

August 22 vs Rangers

Today's temperature:
"A whole game up on the rest of the division? More solid relief pitching help? What's going on here? Maybe even Jerry won't be able to force Sox fans to move into "Heartbreak Hotel"..."

Short Take: Sox Leave Fans All Shook Up

The White Sox annual Elvis Night promotion was tonight, and the bright lights (and capacity crowd) were enough to set even the most casual Pale Hose fan's soul on fire. The Sox take Texas pitching and "RIP IT UP" as they cruise to a 7-1 victory over the Rangers. Is this the same team we faced a week ago that scored 29 runs against us? Sure didn't look like it. 36,311 "STEADFAST, LOYAL AND TRUE" fans jam the stands on the South Side, a crowd that rivaled any one of the King's audiences for one of his comeback specials.

"YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL" Neal Cotts toed the rubber for the Sox tonight and picked up his first major league win and the obligatory post game beer shower that comes with it. Cotts worked just over 6 innings and struck out 3. The young righty still seems to have a lot of control problems, giving up 5 walks on the night, but it's hard to whine about that when he still manages to pick up the W. Big upside--Neal managed to work his way out of a couple jams caused by his high walk total and only "SURRENDER" one run. Should we call it "BEGINNER'S LUCK?" Nahhh..this kid is solid. New acquisition Scott Sullivan has gotta be saying "I THINK I'M GONNA LIKE IT HERE" after coming on in relief, pitching 2 hitless innings and fanning 3. Kelly Wunsch and Scott Schoenweis handle mop up duties after that, with Schoenweis working a 1-2-3 ninth and maybe at last showing why we traded for him in the first place.

Sox offense was "RIDING THE RAINBOW" as they have so often in recent weeks, using the long ball to put runs on the board and making Rangers rookie Juan Dominguez "HURT." Jose Valentin crawled out of his slump long enough to hit a 3 run blast into the right field bullpen in the second and open up the early lead. Valentin would add another solo homer in the 8th, teaming up to go back to back with the seemingly red-hot Carl Everett. Add yet another Frank Thomas blast into the mix in the Sox 3rd inning as well. The Sox pick up their other run as the Rangers "SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL" the ball to all the wrong spots and allow Everett to score after Ramon Nivar drops a Valentin fly near the wall. Sox only ended up with 5 hits on the night, but they made sure they counted!

Sox and Rangers meet up again tomorrow at US Cellular with Mark Buerhle on the hill looking for the series win against "HOUND DOG" Ismael Valdes.
