We CAN Beat the Tigers!

July 18th vs Tigers

Today's temperature:
"Woohoo... The Sox beat the Tigers. It's about damn time. Jerry still is thinking too much for his own damn good."

Short Take: Sox power on display

The Detroit Tigers stink. They reek. They smell. And tonight they stopped playing like the '27 Yankees against the Chicago White Sox. Sox put a nice big crooked number on the board Friday night and beat the Kitties, 7-5.

Mark Buehrle has yet another solid outing even with the 10 hits he gave up. Lots of hits don't matter when you're a team like the Tigers that can't score runs! Mark also struck out five and only walked one as his record improves to 8-10 after winning his 6th straight decision. With the way he's been throwing since June, I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes the season with at least 15 wins. Damaso Marte and Tom Gordon finish the game well, with Gordon picking up the save. Who needs Billy Koch when you've got the Flash?

Sox offense put up 9 runs last night and couldn't score, but tonight they score 2 less and win. Carlos Lee was tonight's featured attraction with 3 RBI, including his 20th double of the season where I swear the cover flew off the ball as it sailed into right field. Paul Konerko is FINALLY over the ol'Mendoza line after picking up 2 hits tonight, one of them his 6th home run of the season. Poundin' Pauly has now hit just as many home runs over the past 8 days as he did in the first 2.5 months of the season. Did his hip stop bugging him? Or did he finally screw his head on right? Robbie Alomar is starting to perform as advertised, tallying to hits and a walk, not to mention a diving play that should definitely be an ESPN Web Gem. In fact, every Sox starter except Jose Valentin had a hit tonight..and that's a shame since Valentin also racked up his umpteenth throwing error which led to the Tigers scoring 4 runs in the 7th inning.

The Sox and Tigers meet again at 6:05 tonight at US Cellular. Jon Garland toes the rubber against Nate Cornejo. Jerry Manuel says this team can beat the Tigers the rest of the season. Let's prove it tonight.

Tinkerer Update:
Pauly at 1B, Thomas at DH, Sandy catches.
