Sox Bats Stay Hot!

July 1st vs Twins

Today's temperature:
"Sox come out smoking again. Jerry deserves some credit for the way they are playing recently. Hopefully the acquisition of Everett and Alomar, R. will make him stop tinkering so much..."

Short Take: Buehrle Cruises, Radke Loses.

Sox fans, in between Kenny Williams' wheeling and dealing, the squad still found time to play a game today! And it's a good thing they did, as the Sox cruise to a 6-1 thumping over the hated division rival Twins. The boys in pinstripes have battled back from a dreadful April and May and now find themselves just 3 games out of first place in the AL Central with a bullet. The hottest team in baseball just keeps on rolling! The additions of Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett had the 30,000+ in attendance at US Cellular Field abuzz with delight and anticipation.

We're all stumped as to what Mark Buerhle was doing wrong at the beginning of the season. Was it mechanics? Was it a relationship gone bad? Whatever it was, Burlymon has put it behind him. The young southpaw with the funny facial hair goes 8+ innings, striking out five and walking NONE while scattering 8 hits. The only mistake he made was giving up a home run to Matt LeCroy in garbage time, but apparently that was all that Jerry Manuel needed to see before once again making a call to the bullpen. When will "Tinkeroo" learn to leave well enough alone? Tom Gordon comes on and gets the final 3 outs.

The days of corpseball look to be, well, buried for at least a little while as the Sox offense picks up right where it left off last night. Frank Thomas drills a first inning 2 run HR and adds a 7th inning RBI double to account for half of the Sox output on the evening? The Big Hurt is back, and if there's any justice in this baseball world, he'll be playing first base for at least part of the All Star Game on his home turf. Brian Daubach got the nod at first base tonight...and while he won't be playing in the All-Star game this year, he still merits attention for belting a home run tonight, continuing to show that he can contribute to this team even if he doesn't play every day. Joltin' Joe Crede tallies an RBI and continues to shake off the early season malaise. Hitting really is contagious! Heck, even old man Alomar homers tonight, he must be awful excited about reuniting with his baby brother yet again. Carlos Lee didn't do anything at the plate tonight, but did make a stellar diving snag in LF that kept a run off the board.

The 3 game set with the Twinkies wraps up tomorrow with a 6:05 start. Danny Wright looks to right his ship (groan) against Kyle Lohse.

Tinkerer Update:
Thomas at DH, Daubach at 1st, Alomar behind the dish.
