Gettin' It Done in the Dome!

June 24th at Minnesota

Today's temperature:
101
"Wow! A win in the Baggie Dome and the Sox catch a break. Now if they can just figure out baserunning and get someone besides Frank to hit, things might cool off around these parts."

Short Take: Two is enough!

  • Think the weather in Chicago has been hot the past few days? Well, the climate seems to have a good effect on the Sox--even when they're on the road. The Pale Hose make the dreaded trip up to the Minnesota Monstrosity known as the Metrodome, and get their 3 game set with the Twins off to a good start with a 2-1 win. 2 runs ain't a lot, but we'll take it!
  • I hope Mike Scoscia was watching this game, because if he was, he got a good look at the guy he should send to the hill for next month's All-Star Game. Estaban Loaiza was his usual stellar self and picks up his 11th win of the season. That ties his career high for wins in a SEASON--and it's not even July yet. Estaban strikes out 6 over 8 innnings and gives up just one unearned run. Hell, he only let one runner get past first base in the first 7 innings of the game. Maybe the Twins are taking corpseball lessons from the Sox.;
  • Nothing too remarkable about the Sox offense tonight though. Carlos Lee tallies two hits, remember when he couldn't even walk onto the field of the Baggie Dome without screwing something up?
  • Frank Thomas drills an RBI single as the story stays the same--put him in at first base and he'll produce. Sox fans, try and write the Hurt's name in on as many All-Star ballots as you can this year before voting ends. Props to Miguel Olivo and Brian Daubach as well for racking up doubles.
  • Biggest relief of the night? The Sox bullpen doesn't mess anything up. Damaso Marte and Billy "Wild Thing" Koch combine on a 1-2-3 inning.
  • Sox get a chance to take the series tonight as Jon Garland dukes it out with Joe "Cy Young" Mays.

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
 Harris in CF leading off, Jiminez at Second, Rowand Defensive replacement in left.
