Loaiza Shuts Down BoSox!

June 18th vs Boston

Today's temperature:
"Yeah, they won, but another crappy job of game management and the batters looked confused about how to approach Wakefield's pitches. Sometimes you wonder exactly what the heck Jerry does aside from sleep..."

Loaiza continues to amaze with little help from the offense.

  • Coming into Wednesday nights game, Esteban Loaiza had allowed the fewest earned runs of any full-time starter this year. The Boston Red Sox had scored the second most runs in the majors, behind only the Blue Jays so something had to give. Well, fortunately for Sox fans, the Red Sox bats are what gave. Loaiza was dominating once again leading the Sox to a 3-1 win over the Wrong Sox.
  • Loaiza continued to make his case for starting in the All Star Game by going 8 strong innings allowing only 1 run. He walked 1 and struck out 6 as well. The win gives Loaiza 10 for the season and weíre still three weeks away from the All Star break. Sox fans, itís hard to say enough about the job Loaiza has done this year, isnít it? He has been the Sox best pitcher by far and has always stepped up in big games. Hereís to hoping he is rewarded with a start in the All Star Game.
  • The Sox didnít provide Loaiza with much support in this game as they seem to have a habit of doing. Loaiza pitched most of this game trailing by 1 run and his largest cushion of the game would be a 2-1 Sox lead. The Sox managed to tie the game in the 5th when trailing 1-0. Miguel Olivo doubled to left with Joe Crede and Jose Valentin on base. Crede would score but Valentin would be thrown out at home on the play.
  • In the 6th the Sox grabbed a narrow lead of 2-1. Brian Daubach got some revenge against his old team with a double to right field which would score DíAngelo Jimenez. Loaiza would take his lead and continue to shut down the Red Sox. He would leave the game with a 2-1 lead and the Sox would add one more in the bottom of the 8th. Magglio Ordonez doubled, scoring Jimenez, to provide the Sox some insurance.
  • Billy Koch would enter the game seeking his 9th save. It wasnít easy as Koch would allow 2 runners to reach base with only 1 out. However a fly out by ex-Flub Bill Mueller would make it a bit easier. Koch would finally strikeout Trot Nixon for the 3rd out and a White Sox Winner! It wasnít easy to watch Sox fans, but Koch did his job which is what really matters.
  • Paul Konerko continued to struggle in this game when he didnít even start! Konerko pinch hit for Daubach against a lefty, in the 8th with no outs and bases loaded. Konerko would ground to short. Nomar Garciaparra threw home for the force out and Varitek went to first for the second out. The Sox would not score but luckily they didnít need it. Daubach, on the other hand, had a clutch double to give Jerry Manuel more reason to find playing time for him.
  • The White Sox look for a series win over the BoSox tomorrow at 1:05 cst. The winless Dan Wright faces Derek Lowe as the Sox look to maintain their momentum going into Friday for the series against the Flubs.

Tinkerer Update:
†Daubach starts at DH, Valentin bats 8th.
