Garland the Giant!

June 10th vs San Francisco

Today's temperature:
"Ahhhh..home sweet home."

Short Take: Sox start homestand off right!

  • They may be jetlagged and road-weary after a 13 game long road trip to the West Coast, but tonight the Chicago White Sox looked like a squad fresh off a relaxing vacation. Great pitching and timely offense lead the Sox to a 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants.
  • The Sox offense continues the great production it showed in the late half of the road trip tallying 9 hits on the night. Isn't that more than they've had in some series this year?
  • Jon Garland is impressive once again. The big righty fans 6 and gives up 5 hits, with the only one doing any damage being a Barry Bonds home run. Is Jon finally living up to all the hype? It seems like all of his starts have been quality as of late. Is all the preseason hype finally getting validated?
  • The very bottom and the very top of the Sox order get the job done tonight. Miguel Olivo belted a 2 run home run in the 7th inning which put the Sox ahead. D'Angelo Jiminez comes up right after him and hits a solo shot to provide some insurance. D'Angelo had 2 hits on the night, but more importantly didn't have any gaffes on the basepaths
  • Carlos Lee picks up right where he left off at the end of the road trip and collects 2 hits. And Frank Thomas extends his hitting streak, but missed a GOLDEN opportunity to give the Sox a couple extra runs when he popped out with the bases loaded earlier in the game.
  • The Sox bullpen preserves the win, but Billy Koch sure made the crowd nervous, allowing a run to score and the tying run to get on base before inducing a double play. Sox fans, it sure is nice when someone else hits into one to end the game now, isn't it?
  • Sox and Giants play the second of three tomorrow at US Cellular Field. Mark Buerhle takes the hill, still looking for that elusive win.

Tinkerer Update:
Rios in CF, Daubach in RF, Konerko returns as DH.
