Temperature Rising on Sox!

June 4th at Arizona

Today's temperature:
"Poor fundamentals as we saw in tonight's game may ultimately be the demise of Jerry."

Garland bad again; Sox attempted comeback falls short.

  • For those who didn’t bother to stay up to watch this Sox game, consider yourselves lucky. The Sox had yet another lackluster performance on Wednesday night led by starter Jon Garland. The offense didn’t do much either except for provide Sox fans with a glimmer of hope in the 9th only to blow their chance at a comeback. All in all, the Sox showed once again why they are a team now 8 games under .500 as they played another bad baseball game in losing 8-6.
  • Jon Garland was bad again as we Sox fans have come to expect from “Judy”. He went 4 innings giving up 7 runs, on 10 hits and allowing 2 home runs. In fairness, Garland was not fully helped out by his teammates. With 2 outs and a runner on in the first, Luis Gonzalez lined to center for what should have been the 3rd out. However, Joe Borchard misread the ball and after losing his footing, was unable to make the catch. 2 runs would score that shouldn’t have, though no error would be charged. Those 2 runs would come back to haunt the Sox.
  • The Sox offense was lacking for most of the game. Magglio Ordonez hit a solo shot in the 2nd to cut into the lead, 2-1 at that point. The Sox would also score 2 runs in the 6th all starting with 2 outs. An infield single by Carlos Lee and a double by Frank Thomas would score the first of the two. Two batters later, Jose Valentin singled to score Thomas who was on 3rd after a wild pitch. Unfortunately, these 2 runs would only cut the score to 8-3 Dbacks.
  • Game over right? We all know this Sox team doesn’t come back from deficits like this. Well, the Sox would make one last shot in the 9th inning trailing 8-3. Valentin, Josh Paul and Borchard would string together singles to make it 8-4. Brian Daubach pinch hit and came up with one of his biggest hits as a member of the White Sox by doubling to right to drive home 2. 8-6 Sox with a runner on 2nd and still no outs. Things are looking up now, right Sox fans?
  • Wrong. As any Sox fan knows, the minute you start to get optimistic about the Sox, they somehow manage to blow it. Sure enough, they would. Tony Graffanino would foul out to first. But D’Angelo Jimenez really blew it. He would ground out to short, but the Dbacks chose to go get Daubach out via a run down. For some reason Jimenez would decide to advance to 2nd. It would be a bad move as he was easily tagged out walking into 2nd. Game Over. Rather than stop at 1st and give Carlos Lee and possibly Thomas a chance to keep the rally going, Jimenez blew it by trying to take a meaningless base. Bad base running once again by the FUNdamental-less White Sox. It’s like a reoccurring nightmare. Then again, this entire season is.
  • Looking for a positive in this game? Rick White pitched 2 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 8.18. Kelly Wunsch also pitched a scoreless inning as he continues to impress out of the pen. Of course, that doesn’t mean as much when the starter gives up 7 runs in 4 innings. David Sanders allowed the other run in his 1 inning of work.
  • The Sox look to avoid the sweep tomorrow as Danny Wright goes against Elmer Dessens at 8:35 cst. Wright is still seeking his 1st win of the season as he looks to bounce back from his last outing against the Indians where he allowed 5 runs in 4 innings.

Tinkerer Update:
Valentin bats 5th, Thomas starts at 1st again.

Magglio Ordonez

He hit a solo home run and for this game, thats a feat worthy enough of tallest midget status.
