Pain In The Rain!

May 4th vs Seattle

Today's temperature:
"Loss day tomorrow! Might be the perfect time for Jerry to clean out his desk"

Short Take:  At least Mother Nature spares us from 9 innings

  • Tonight's Sox/Mariners tilt at US Cellular Field may have served as a metaphor for the White Sox season thus far. Nothing but optimism and clear skies before things start, but a cold and gloomy downpour takes over before very long. Sox lose a rain-shortened matchup in front of a national TV audience 5-1.
  • The brave few who showed up to tonight's game were treated to yet another night of Bartolo Colon getting picked apart by a vastly superior team. El Rotundo gives up 5 runs on 9 hits, 3 of which left the yard. At least they were solo shots, or this game could have been even uglier.
  • Boneheaded plays abounded on the South Side tonight from the very first inning. Sox have a prime chance to score when Magglio Ordonez lifts a fly to shallow right. D'Angelo Jiminez tags up and heads for home trying to beat a howizter-like toss from Ichiro Suzuki. D'Ang was out by a country mile, and trying to look like a hotshot and bowl the catcher over didn't do any good.
  • On top of mowing down Jiminez, Ichiro had a solid night at the plate. He belted a solo home run and scored on an Edgar Martinez single.
  • Ageless Edgar still has the Sox number after all these years. The Old Man belted a solo homer and a 2 RBI single off Colon. But hey! At least we only held Mike Cameron to one hit.
  • Lone Sox run comes on an RBI groundout from Miguel Olivo which scored Paul Konerko. Gil "Who The Heck Am I" Meche had Sox hitters pretty much handcuffed. Willie Harris showed some leather in CF chasing down a long fly, and Carlos Lee almost headbutted Jose Valentin fighting over a popup to shallow left, but otherwise the Sox did nothing worth even writing about.
  • Sox get an off day tomorrow and then jump a flight to the West Coast for 3 games against Oakland and 3 against these same Mariners. Let's keep our fingers crossed Jerry Manuel doesn't make it on that plane.

Tinkerer Update:
Mags is back in his usual spot, Harris moved down to 8th.
