WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Picked Apart!

April 29 vs oakland

Today's temperature:
"Even a classic Tinkeroo lineup isn't enough to beat a Cy Young winner!

Short Take:  Sox flat out can't produce

  • Tonight's Sox vs Oakland matchup was billed as a classic pitcher's duel with Bartolo Colon taking the hill against 2002 AL Cy Young winner Barry Zito. The Sox could have sent Cy himself to the hill tonight and still would have come up short thanks to an ice-cold offense. Sox lose 3-2 in a rain-delayed contest at US Cellular Field.
  • Bartolo Colon wasn't bad tonight, but was hardly dominant either. The big man scatters 3 runs and 6 hits and eats the loss, his second in a row. We keep playing like this, and El Barto will be busting someone else's XL jersey come trade deadline time. Who wants to play for a team that simply can't provide run support?
  • Pretty much the lone power highlight for the Pale Hose tonight was super sub Tony Graffanino's solo home run in the third inning which at least put the Sox on top for a little while. Tony G continues to produce off the bench...too bad he just can't do it everyday.
  • Paul Konerko went 2 for 4 on the night, but it hurts to watch him run. Something is not right with his hip, and someone needs to find out what it is before he ends up on the operating table. It was painful to watch him pop out weakly in the 9th and then storm back in the dugout and beat himself (and his batting helmet) up out of sheer frustration.
  • Who was that with an RBI single? Superman? Nahhh...just Aaron Rowand breaking an 0-for-eternity slump with some timely hitting. Too bad this team can't hold a lead. Also nice to see Frank Thomas take 3 walks tonight. Sure is a shame no one is around to bat him home. Magglio Ordonez goes 0 for 4 and Carlos Lee only reaches base due to an error. The 3,4,5 spots need to start all clicking at once instead of sporadically if this team wants to go anywhere.
  • Sox fans, know what hurt worst of all? Seeing castaway Chris Singleton belt an RBI triple to tie the game. Sure wish we had him in CF instead of Rowand now, don't ya?
  • Same teams duke it out tomorrow night. Rain in the forecast...and the way we play against the AL West, a rainout could be the best thing to happen to us all week.

Tinkerer Update:
Graffanino in for Valentin, and it's not the last time we'll see him this week due to pitching matchups. Konerko drops to 6th in the batting order, and Rowand's back in CF.

Tony Graffanino

The super sub gets a solo shot in the first. Is this as good as it gets?
