Sox motor into Motor City

April 11 at Detroit

Today's temperature:
"Playing the Tigers makes Jerry feel cool and comfortable. Now if he can just get the Royals to cool off..."

Short Take:  Beating the Tigers sure is easy

  • Hey Sox fans! Don't you wish the Pale Hose could play the Tigers 162 games a year? Once again, Esteban Loaiza takes the hill on a Friday and makes short work of the hapless Motor City Kitties. Maybe Allan Trammel and Lance Parrish should suit back up, they've probably got more spark than this bunch. Loaiza gives up just 2 hits and no walks against this impotent bunch as he cruises through 8 easy innings of work.
  • About the only highlight for the about 200 Tiger fans in attendance was a group of drunken Detroit denizens playing "catch me if you can" with Comerica Park security. Not much to look forward to at cavernous Comerica this year with this bunch of schleps on the field.
  • Jose Valentin continues to act as the catalyst for a Sox offense still trying to fire on all cylinders. A first inning 2 run shot off poor hopeless Adam Bernero put the Sox on the board early. Jose was 2 for 5 on the night, adding a solid single in his next at bat.
  • D'Angelo Jimenez is making us forget about Willie Harris (who?) in a HUGE way. Dashin' D'ang started the game off with a double and added a solo HR and single to finish the night 3 for 5. His infield play has been solid as of late too, quite a switch from his seemingly endless ball booting in Spring Training.
  • The heart of the Sox order is slowly but surely starting to get it together. Magglio Ordonez ripped an RBI double in the 9th to pad the Sox lead, scoring Frank Thomas, who continues to show he's getting his patience back at the plate. If only he could stop popping out so much. Paul Konerko got a hit tonight (and missed a HR by about 2 feet in the 9th) as he shakes his cobwebs off, and even Carlos Lee snapped his 0 for Godknowshowmany streak with a hard single late.
  • Billy Koch continues to baffle opponents (well, at least the Tigers) as he fanned 2 batters in the 9th. Some schmuck behind the screen right in the middle of the camera range was jokingly timing his pitches and heckling him, which just made him throw harder.
  • Same two teams square off tomorrow afternoon. Josh Stewart looks for another command performance against this lame and feeble bunch.

Tinkerer Update:
No tinkering to be had tonight. Jerry doesn't need to think much against the Tigers. They stink regardless.

Even against the kitties, a two-hit shutout is a two-hit shutout.
