Ex-Indians Seek Revenge

April 8th at Cleveland

Today's temperature:
"Sox are hot and Jerry is looking good. Big come from behind win shows team's guts. Where was this team in Kansas City?"

Short Take:  Sox win in their first extra inning game as Alomar comes up big.

  • A day after being snowed out, the Sox defeated the Indians 5-3 to spoil Cleveland's home opener. Former Injun Bartolo Colon pitched 6 strong innings allowing only 2 runs to his former team. He left the game in line for his first win as a member of the White Sox, but the Sox bullpen quickly gave up that lead. Luckily though, some clutch at-bats and some wildness on the part of Cleveland's pitcher gave the Sox the lead in the 10th inning which they held to get their 4th win. Woohoo! The Sox are now over .500 for the first time on the year!
  • Cleveland's Chad Paronto pitched an outstanding 10th inning, for Sox fans that is. After giving up a leadoff single to Sandy Alomar Jr.. Paronto couldn't find the plate. He walked D'Angelo Jimenez who patiently waited for Paronto to throw a strike before thinking about bunting. Jimenez never had to attempt a bunt because Paronto walked him on four straight pitches. After that, Jose Valentin was forced to swing away after not getting the bunt down. That turned out to be a good thing because Valentin would single to right scoring the winning run, pinch runner (for Alomar) Miguel Olivo.
  • Alomar had a terrific game as he was a factor in every Sox rally. In the 5th it was Alomar who doubled home Joe Crede to score the Sox first run. In the 7th Alomar would once again double home Crede and later score on a single by Jimenez. Finally, Alomar singled to lead off the 10th and the man who pinch ran for him, Olivo, would eventually score. It was great to see a huge game from Alomar wasn't it Sox fans?
  • Billy Koch had another superb outing today. With a runner on first in the 9th, Koch relieved Damaso Marte and shut down the Indians to force extra innings. Then with a two run lead in the 10th, Koch mowed down Cleveland hitters to secure the Sox victory. Koch has pitched well this year with the exception of the one outing against the Royals. Koch also picked up his first win with the White Sox.
  • Joe Crede continued to hit well today as he had 2 more hits and scored 2 of the Sox runs. D'Angelo Jimenez also continued his hot streak as he collected 2 more hits, scored a run, and drove in a run. On the other hand, Carlos Lee continues to struggle as he went 0-4 today and struck out 2 more times. Paul Konerko continues his struggles as well as he also had an 0-4 day. These two need to step it up and starting hitting!
  • Tom Gordon needs to start pitching better if the Sox bullpen is going to be as good as advertised. He blew a 3-2 lead today by giving up back-to-back doubles. With Koch and Marte starting to improve, Gordon is the one man in the bullpen who has yet to find his groove. The Sox are going to need him to pitch better in order to solidify the bullpen.
  • The Sox will continue their series against the Indians tomorrow at 6:05 CST. Jon Garland will make his second start as he seeks his first win of the season.

Tinkerer Update:
Nothing. Seriously. The Opening Day lineup was out there today. Surprising, huh?
