World Series,
No Sox.

Well whodda thunk it? We have an all wildcard match up in the World Series. For the first time in quite a few years the Yankees were bounced in the first round, which will probably bring a rearrangement of the line-up in the Bronx, Iím sure that everyone (including me) is feeling sorry for George Steinbrenner right now, not only did the Yankees get punted out early, but his Top Fuel Dragster effort† is failing miserably as well, it has too suck when your ďhobbyĒ that bears your teams name is failing pathetically. To top it off the NHRA has no salary cap, and no restrictions on what you spend on talent, but you do have to have a clue on what is talent and what isnít, perhaps George can get his baseball people to work on getting him a driver and a crew chief, or at the very least maybe they can find him a guy that can tune a clutch that stays together for more than one pass. †

That is enough racing talk, back to baseball. The Giants and the Angels make it to the World Series and FOX† canít be happy about it, for the simple fact that it went from being national to being regional, fans like me will watch because it is the World Series, but the casual fan factor went in the toilet as far as the rest of the country is concerned, and Anaheim and San Francisco are not exactly the largest markets out there. The Mastercard Top Ten Moments† automatically became almost a non-factor because of the ratings, which makes me think we will be subjected to the same nonsense again next season, and to say the least their top ten is pure nonsense. How in the name of all that is holy can you have a top ten list that does not include anything that Babe Ruth accomplished in his career? Granted this list was voted on by the fans, but common sense has to take over at some point, Cal Ripken and his consecutive game streak? Gimme a break, Lou Gherigís farewell speech meant more to the game than Cal breaking his streak, hands down. This whole thing turned out to be a joke that blew up in the face of Major League Baseball, thanx Bud for taking the cash and serving up another point that lets the national media prove to the world what a buffoon you really are. The sad point is Bud has no clue that the media and the fans view him as a fool, he just continues along making sure that the owners bottom line is covered and then claims that every team is losing money.†

The Man Behind the Mask

The White Sox fired Wallace Johnson, and reassigned Gary Pettis, probably to the same non-disclosed position that Nardi has, as a limbo coach waiting for a new team. Good riddance is all I can say. Can we hope that Gary Ward will not be far behind? I know many blame Jerry Manuel for the state of the team as of now, but Kenny Williams is the man behind the mask, many have been calling for Williams head on plate, but I will refrain from that for now, I judge both the good and the bad, and one has not outweighed the other so far as I see it, but I will reserve further judgement till spring training gets rolling, Kenny has made mistakes, but so did Ron Schueler. I do find it rather interesting that discussions with Frank Thomasí agent are handled by Jerry Reinsdorf† himself, and that Kenny has no part in the discussions, is it a sign that Art Trellem does not want to deal with Kenny, or is it a courtesy to Frank to have his deal handled by the owner himself? Either way I think Frank will be in a White Sox uniform next year, and it will be a crime to all Sox fans if he isnít, when all is said and done he is a first ballot hall of famer that has expressed a desire to play for the White Sox till he retires, and for all that his doubters say his numbers back him up in a more ways than one. Keep Frank plain and simple, it would be a lesson in bad public relations as well as bad baseball decisions to not work out a deal.†

Thatís my view and Iím sticking to it, other than that bow season is open take a guess on what I am doing.
