WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Crash and Burn.

"Oh boy, the off-season!  Now my totally excellent moves will be center stage!"

Know Your Enemy!

Totally Biased
Series Update

Short Take:  Swept at the Hump Dome to end the season, of course.

  • For the third consecutive game, the White Sox blow a chance at victory on an eighth inning dinger.  For the second consecutive game, the blow came from Torii Hunter's understudy.  Pathetic.  Beyond pathetic.  The Sox lose three consecutive games, blow a chance a finishing over .500, and get swept by the Twins 3-1.
  • Where's Ray Durham to put the top-spin on this one?  Oh, that's right.  He's in Oakland playing DH for a team that won over 100 games.  Sox Fans are sure glad he proved to be the missing piece to somebody else's championship puzzle.  Meanwhile we're heading for our 86th consecutive year wandering the wilderness.
  • How soon before Einhorn and Reinsdorf deliver on that "first-class organization" they promised back in 1981?  Maybe invoking the diminished skills clause on Frank Thomas will make the Sox champions?  As if a single penny of the savings would ever find its way into a pitching upgrade.  What a joke.
  • Jon Garland was the victim today, same as Jon Rauch and Mark Buehrle before him.  He was trying to achieve the simplest of goals for a quality starter, an above-.500 record.  Sorry, Jon.  Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel decided starting Josh Paul in left field was a good idea, batting #2.  He was 1 for 4 and struck out twice.  What could the Sox skipper be thinking?
  • Reliever Mike Porzio was today's goat, serving up the fat pitch that sank the Sox.  Why did the mighty Sox "O" only score one run?  Maybe those eleven strikeouts had something to do with it.
  • Minnesota finishes with 94 wins, stacking up wins like cord wood by the hearth playing an unbalanced schedule against anemic opponents from the A.L. Central.  They fly on to Oakland and a chance to do something meaningful, like win a championship.  Don't laugh.  The contraction candidate Twins have won two of them the past 15 years.
  • The Sox back their way into an 81-81 mark after leading the division through April.  Though they played better in September, the past three days ought to have alarm bells ringing over how far away from competing this ballclub truly is.
  • The epitaph for the 2002 Sox:  they were better than the Cubs.  Such is life being a baseball fan in Chicago.  How pathetic is that?

Tinkerer Update:
Josh Paul in left field?  What is this, high school?  Maybe it is.

Sox Clubhouse "Pick to Click" Winner

Jon Garland

Seven innings, one earned run, 3 K's against 1 walk, and no win.  He's probably a winning pitcher on any other team this side of Detroit.
