Buehrle the Victim

Totally Biased
Series Update

Short Take:  Anemic bats doom chance at 20 wins.

  • The Baggie Dome Horror returns for Sox Fans.  For the second consecutive game, the Sox blow scoring chances early and lose on a two-run dinger in the eighth.  This one was 3-2 Minnesota.  What ever made Ray Durham think the Sox could beat this team?
  • The Sox stranded ELEVEN men on base.  Six walks and six hits only earned Mark Buehrle one run of support.  Pathetic, oh so pathetic.  And oh so typical for this depressing 2002 outfit.
  • With two out, Paul Konerko left three on base; Jeff Liefer two; and Magglio Ordonez, and D'Angelo Jimenez one each.  Does this all sound familiar, Sox Fans?
  • Mark Buehrle battled all day.  He allowed ten hits but held the Twins scoreless for six innings after allowing an rbi single in the first inning.
  • Buehrle loses his chance to be the first Sox lefty to win 20 games since Jim Kaat did it back in 1975.  Do you suppose Sox management is callous enough to jerk around Buehrle with next winter's salary negotiation?  Of course not--assuming Mark simply takes what they offer, drops to his knees and cries, "Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me pitch for your baseball team, Mr. Reinsdorf!"
  • The season ends Sunday.  What does the team play for now?  A quick exit for the airport probably.

Tinkerer Update:
Jeff Liefer's lefty bat goes 0 for 3 with 3 K's.  Borchard sits.

Mark Buehrle

Eight innings, 7 K's, and the loss.  He should have won his 20th three weeks ago.
