Series Update

Short Take:  Have you ever seen a Twinkie covered in flop sweat?

  • If there is any doubt the Minnesota Twins are feeling a bit tighter around the collar, this game ought to remove it.  Joe Mays gets beaten like a rug, Mark Buehrle rolls to win #19, and the Sox sweep the pathetic excuse for a Central Divsion Champ Twinkies, 8-2 the final.
  • If Frank Thomas was pouting about being benched yesterday, it sure didn't seem to affect his play tonight.  He bombed "Cy" Mays in the first inning and spotted Buehrle a 2-0 lead.
  • D'Angelo Jimenez was brilliant again in the leadoff spot.  He reached base twice, including the key hit of the night, a three-run blast off Mays to make it 7-1 Sox.
  • Buehrle allowed two runs and nine hits across six innings.  Was this his best stuff?  Nah.  Should Sox Fans assign style points to his winning effort?  Not a chance.
  • Antonio Osuna had no trouble in two innings relief.  Damaso Marte was a bit rocky in the ninth, but no damage done.  Magglio Ordonez fluffed up his stats with a beautiful homerun on an 0-2 pitch in the eighth inning.  You've got to love the Sox pouring it on thick for the Twinkies!
  • The Sox move two games over .500 with the victory.  Is this what Sox Fans had in mind last spring for this team?  No, but winning sure feels better than losing.
  • Just win, baby.

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
Liefer back at 1B, but now Frank is DH, not Konerko.  Olivo, Harris, and Borchard benched.
