Liefer goes yard; Sox tie Angels at 10

March 7th, from the Associated Press

Outfielder Mario Valenzuela had a two-run single off Anaheim's Bart Miadich during a three-run ninth Thursday as the Chicago White Sox and Angels played to a 10-10 tie.

Tim Salmon's first homer of the spring highlighted a three-run Angels' third against White Sox starter Matt Guerrier. Darin Erstad added an RBI double in the inning.

Garret Anderson had an RBI double in the fifth.

Chicago opened the scoring off Angels starter Ramon Ortiz when Paul Konerko hit a two-run double high off the left-center field wall.

Jeff Liefer added a three-run homer, his first of the spring, in the fifth off Angels' reliever Elvin Nina and teammate Miguel Olivo, a catcher, hit an inside-the-park solo home run in the same inning

Shawn Wooten's two-run single off White Sox reliever Matt Ginter highlighted a three-run Angels' seventh. Wooten figures to split time at first base this season with switch-hitting Scott Spiezio, although Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the job is open for one of the two to win.

Wooten, 29, hit .312 with eight homers in 221 at bats last season, his first real shot in the major leagues. Before last year, Wooten had nine major-league at bats.
