Hunting Byrds!

September 9 at Kansas City

Kenny Williams'
Stress Relief Odometer

Today's Mileage:
"It'll be less stressful when Keith Foulke replaces Wright in the rotation. Whoo!"

Know Your Enemy!

Totally Biased
Series Update

Short Take:  So what if it's the Royals?

  • The Sox nearly blow away another win, but manage to hold on with a 10-6 win, with no help from Danny Wright, who gave up six runs on eight hits, but somehow managed to get the win. Paul Byrd for the Royals wasn't his usual stellar self, and the Sox managed to beat him. Who woulda thunk it, Sox fans? Joe Crede homered twice, and Joe Borchard managed to chug around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Danny Wright tried to blow this lead every chance he got, but the Sox bats stepped in the way. The Royals have now lost seven straight. The Sox have now won two in a row. It's just too bad that the season is over, for all intensive purposes.
  • Another day, a new position for Jeff Liefer managed another 0-fer, dropping his average to a Willie Harris-esque .222. He got the start in left today. Of course that means we can expect him to play tomorrow.
  • Thank heavens for the Sox bullpen, who only allowed two hits in 3.1 innings. Keith Foulke, and Damaso Marte managed to save Danny Wright's rear end. Matt Ginter also tried his hand at giving the game to the Royals, allowing them to get within a run at 7-6, but Mr. Foulke ended that nonsense.
  • The Sox actually drove runners in tonite, only leaving five men on base, compared to KC's ten. Of course, the bulk of that came from guys who were called up from the minors, not the guys who are actually supposed to produce.
  • The bottom nine in the order (Joe Crede, Joe Borchard, and Josh Paul were a combined 5-for-12 with five runs and four RBI's. Throw in D'angelo Jiminez, and you have the people who won the game. Lucky for us, they should be around for a while.
  • Joe Borchard's inside-the-park homer was the first since September 29, 2000. We will probably have to wait even longer for the next one.
  • The Sox now pull to 70-74, and now face a pitcher named Runelvys. A Sox winner should be expected, but, you have to remember who is managing this team. Expect tinkering galore, Glover not to have more than one hundred pitches, and a new position for Jeff Liefer.

Tinkerer Update:
Borchard in center, Lee benched, Liefer in left, Jimenez at second, Harris benched.

Sox Clubhouse "Pick to Click" Winner

Joe Crede

Homered to left twice, three RBI's and yet more spectacular play in the field. Most definitely deserved to be winning "Picks to Clicks" two years ago, if it wasn't for inept Sox management.
