Enquiring Sox Fans want to know!

If only Sox Fans knew...
Last Series vs. Kansas City
  • The Sox swept Kansas City in a three-game series in Comiskey from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28.
  • The Sox also outscored Kansas City, 23-5.
Totally Biased Sox Notes
  • After failing to win in his last start, Mark Buehrle is no longer on pace to finish the season with 20 wins, though it is still possible.  With 30 starts, Buehrle has 4 projected starts left, and at his current pace (17-10, .630), he is on pace to finish the season at 19-11.
  • Is Frank coming back to form?  He has raised his batting average nearly 15 points since August 20's game against Minnesota.  He is now batting .245 on the year, but more importantly, his .352 OPB is still one of the highest on the team.
  • After being on a power tear, Joe Crede has cooled down a bit.  In his last six games, dating back to September 1, he has yet to homer and has only driven in 2 runs.  However, he has been hitting .304 in that span (7-23) with a walk.
  • Keith Foulke has been his old, dominant self in the second half.  Since the All-Star Break, Foulke has a microscopic 1.05 ERA and an even better 0.94 WHIP in 25.2 innings spanning 22 games.  However, he has no saves in that span (but has 5 holds).  Also notable, Mike Porzio and his 1.35 ERA over 20 innings spanning 13 games and Kelly Wunsch's 1.59 ERA spanning 11.1 innings in 22 games.
Know thy Enemy!
  • No, Sox fans, that's not Roberto Hernandez scheduled to start the second game of the set.  That is Kansas City youngster Runelvys Hernandez.  In his rookie campaign, he has a 3-3 record and a 4.53 ERA (23 ER, 45.2 IP) over 8 games (all of them starts).
  • Raul Ibanez is having a breakthrough season for the Royals, batting .293, hitting 21 homers, and leading the team with 98 RBIs.
  • Ex-Sox closer Roberto Hernandez has pitched well for the Royals so far this season.  He has 25 saves so far (and 8 blown saves) as well as a relatively high 4.41 ERA for a closer.  He has not blown a save since August 15 against New York, but has only had 2 saves since August 22nd.
  • The Royals have been roughed up away from KC.  They have amassed a 22-49 record on the road.
What to watch for!
  • Sox sweep?  Or are we getting greedy?
  • A few weeks ago, it looked like the Sox could jump over .500 during this series.  Now we'd be happy if they got within 5 games of the break-even point again.
  • ROBERTO HERNANDEZ!
  • Who cares?
