Pre-Game Report

Short Take:  Well, at least Magglio is hitting again.

It was Turn Back the Clock to 1989 Night at Comiskey Park.  It's been at least that long since a more meaningless series between the Sox and Cleveland Indians was played.  The Sox got an early lead, but lousy pitching and fielding gaffes spelled disaster in front of a sparse crowd that was nowhere near the 12,000+ announced.

Besides losing, nobody showing up at the ballpark is the other part of the Turn Back the Clock to 1989 Night promotion.  Ah, memories...

Magglio Ordonez showed signs of pulling out of his longest hitting slump of the season.  After going 0-fer the entire road trip just completed, Maggs came through in a big way with a three-run shot in the first inning to spot the Sox the lead.  He ended up with three hits on the night and was easily the team's hitting hero.

Unfortunately, Sox pitching was giving up runs at a far faster rate than Sox hitters could make up for.  Starter Gary "Get Me Back to the Bullpen" Glover was nicked for two runs in the fourth, and tattooed in the fifth.  He had a bit of help from Mike "Hit Me!" Porzio.

Of course for complete pitching disasters, nobody serves it up like Jim "I'm Through!" Parque.  He fed his gopher twice in the eighth inning and pretty much drained the last bit of life from the Sox.

Yeah, a fielding error by Jose Valentin didn't help, and Jeff Liefer going 0 for 4 with three strikeouts hurt, too.  But hey--it's the White Sox!  You didn't honestly expect to win, did you?

Tinkerer Update:
Crede benched, and Jimenez at THIRD base.  Joe Borchard?  Fuhrgetaboutit!

Magglio Ordonez

3 for 5, with a three-run dinger to put the Sox up 3-0.  It was the highlight of the game.
