Sox pull together to extend streak

TORONTO -- Tuesday night's win at SkyDome was important to the White Sox because it extended their season-high winning streak to seven games, but the hard-fought 5-4 victory was especially gratifying because it was very much a team-oriented accomplishment.

A bullpen by committee and contributions from rookies and veterans alike earned the White Sox their longest winning streak since June 12-20 of last year and put them two games within reach of .500 (68-70).

Chicago rookie John Rauch (1-1) earned the first Major League victory of his career by gutting out two innings in relief of Rocky Biddle, who was slated for -- and delivered -- four innings. Veteran shortstop Jose Valentin set some milestones himself by homering twice, including a solo shot in the seventh, his 21st of the year, that would win the game.

"I think [Rauch] just picked the right day and the right time to come in," Valentin said. "I hit a home run to help him out to get a win, but we're not doing it for only one guy here. We do it for the team and we do it for everybody because this is a team sport."
