Six errors doom Sox

March 6th, from the

Willie Morales hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks took advantage of three errors to score nine runs in the seventh inning and pummelled the Chicago White Sox 16-5 in a split-squad contest Tuesday night at Tucson Electric Park.

Diamondbacks starter Curt Schilling struck out two in 3 2/3 innings, allowing a pair of runs in the fourth inning.

White sox left-handers Dennis Ulacia and Onan Masaoka were tagged for all the runs in the pivotal seventh, which erased a 4-3 White Sox lead built in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Lee and an RBI single from Jeff Liefer.

The Sox had six errors, including one at each infield position. Joe Crede, Liefer and Julio Ramirez had miscues in the seventh while Willie Harris committed a pair and Jason Dellaero also had an error.

One of the lone bright spots for the Sox was Frank Thomas, who had his first hit and scored his first run of the spring.

White Sox notes: Harris committed two throwing errors, both while playing second base. ... Masaoka continued to struggle in his second appearance of the spring. He gave up a single to the first batter he faced then walked the next two to force in a run. In his first outing he allowed four runs in one inning
