Pre-Game Report

Short Take:  Five runs in first inning, Sox back to five under .500.

If our Sox had beaten the crap out of Detroit back in July the way they apparently intend to do all this weekend, we wouldn't be looking at a month's worth of spring training games this September.  A five-run first inning launches the Sox to an easy 9-4 victory over the pathetic Tigers.

How the hell are we not twenty games over .500 playing in this crappy division?

The Sox sent eight hitters to the plate in the first inning.  Two walks and three hits led to five runs, the big blast coming from the streaking Joe Crede with a two-run dinger.

Say whatever you want about Steve Sparks' knuckleball, it was traveling or dancing--just getting hit hard.  The Sox tagged him for nine earned run on seven hits.  Mark Johnson joined Crede with a dinger, too.

Gary Glover did enough to win his seventh game.  Yeah, he walked three and gave up a dinger, but these were the Tigers of the pathetic A.L. Central Division, so the outcome should have been a foregone conclusion.  Kelly Wunsch, Keith Foulke, and Antonio Osuna had little trouble knocking down the hitters they faced the rest of the way.  With a fat lead, there wasn't too much sweating out there.

Sox go for the sweep Sunday, then off to Toronto.  They're back to just five games under .500.  Is that what Sox Fans had in mind for this team last April?  Hardly.  However, if you're going to bother to play the games, you might as well win them.

Sox Fans have no trunk with lovable losers.

Tinkerer Update:
Rowand back to leading off.  Willie Harris back at second.  Jimenez benched.

Joe Crede

2 for 4 with a run scored and two rbi's.  His two-run dinger was the exclamation point on a five-run first inning that put the Sox in the driver's seat towards victory.
