Pre-Game Report

When Sox Fans look back on the disaster that has become the 2002 Sox season, will they remember this game with fond memories?  Our Pale Hose couldn't win the pathetic A.L. Central Division, and they couldn't even manage more than a split of the season series with the pathetic Chicago Cubs, but dammit, we proved we're better than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays!  The Sox win the rubber game of the series, beating the Devil Dogs 8-3.  Woo hoo!

Is this what it has come to Sox Fans, rooting for a victory over the worst team in baseball?  My goodness, the strike can't get here quick enough.

Yeah, the Sox fell behind early again.  Josh Paul had a throwing error that costs the Sox an unearned run in the first inning, and the Sox were down 2-0 before they ever got their first cuts.  Aaron Rowand got a two-run homer in the third inning, and just like that the Sox were tied again.

Would this be a good time to remind everyone Tampa Bay sucks?  Shhh... don't spoil it.  We need all the top-spin we can muster on this victory.

The mighty Sox "O", missing since sometime in late April, made a rare appearance.  Jerry Manuel's crew sent eight batters to the plate in the fourth inning and the Sox scored (gasp!) FOUR RUNS.  Even a bigger surprise, none of them came on homers (double gasp!!).

With the Sox  up 6-2, the Devil Dogs did a remarkable impersonation of our own White Sox whenever they trail late.  They managed to score a token run in the sixth, but their pitching gave it right back in the bottom of the frame.  They didn't manage another hit the last three innings.

Boy, doesn't that sound familiar Sox Fans?

Gary Glover went seven innings and got the win.  Mike Porzio mopped up without trouble the last two innings.  Toronto comes to town for the first time all season for three games and then comes the strike.  Sox Fans say, "Not soon enough."

Tinkerer Update:
Southpaw wrecking crew ruined when Graffy gets hurt--but the Sox win!  Hmm...

2 for 3 with one run scored and two batted in, both coming with two outs.  Had an error, but that's the price you pay for versatility, right?
