Pre-Game Report

How do you beat Joe Mays?  For the Sox it has been a mystery for eleven straight outings.  The jerk has made a career out of beating the Sox.  But not tonight!

Mark Buehrle wins his sixteenth game as the Sox offense rolls over "Cy" Mays and the frowning Minnesota Twinkies, 10-1 the final.  The six-game losing streak is finally over!

Though Jacque Jones didn't get to do his little dance around the bases in the first inning of this game (as he did the prior two), the Twins still tagged Sox with a first inning deficit.  The league's biggest group of tiny appendages managed to string together three consecutive singles with two outs to give themselves a 1-0 lead.  Sox Fans were sure the pouting brats would still manage to find something to whine about.  Not enough mosquitoes flying through their hotel windows, perhaps?  Taxes too low?  What?

So it was up to the Sox offense to show these punks a trip to Chicago ain't no picnic in Brainerd.  When it comes to pure guts, you can usually count on one member of the Pale Hose to deliver big.

Jose "Manos" Valentin worked a full count on Mays, then took the goofy looking jerk over the fence, Aaron Rowand scoring ahead of him--an unearned run thanks to Twinkie error.  Buehrle had the lead and would never look back.

Valentin played the key role in extending the lead, too.  It was his three-run shot in the second inning that had the Twinkies looking forward to their flight out of town on another of those 30 year-old death-trap DC-9's Northwest Airlines still flies for el cheapo teams owned by Carl Pohlad.  Hey fellas, Sammy Sosa may still have some seats on his private jet!

Slumping Willie Harris showed signs of pulling out of his funk with a 3 for 4 performance and a solo dinger.  Buehrle scattered four hits across six innings before being pulled after seven.  Damaso Marte and Kelly Wunsch tossed in another four strikeouts to Buehrle's five.

So how did the Sox beat Mays?  Simple.  Willie Harris bounced one off his pitching thumb.  He was lifted after two innings.  Hey!  Whatever it takes, eh Sox Fans!  We ought to aim for him every at-bat from now on.  It certainly works better than everything else we've tried!

He's a certified head case.  Let's get in his kitchen from now on.

Tinkerer Update:
Frank Thomas will work out of his slump from the bench.
