Pre-Game Report

A show of hands!  Who is surprised the Sox were roadkill in this baseball game?  The Sox were playing in Oakland, facing Barry Zito, one of the best left-handers in the game, and they've been going through the motions for Jerry Manuel for the past six weeks.

Beyond pathetic, the Sox lose again, swept in Oakland 7-4.  They're coming home to Chicago for another half-price night.  Who really cares?  Half-price is really too much to pay for half-ass effort.

The easiest way to beat the White Sox is simply allow the White Sox to beat themselves.  The surest way to do that is have your pitcher wear his glove on his right hand.  Like Pavlov's dog, Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel will immediately respond by fielding a line up that couldn't hit its way through a paper bag.  Against a quality starter like Zito, it's not even close.

Woof!  Woof!  The Tinkerer hasn't a clue.

If there was any payback to be given Oakland for plunking Royce Clayton yesterday, you can forget this pride-less outfit of the Tinkerer's doing anything about it.  Royce got his own bit of revenge hitting a third inning dinger to give the hapless Sox a brief 1-0 lead.  Live for the moment, Sox Fans.  It didn't last long.

Naturally Danny "I'm in over my head" Wright gave that back--and then some--the bottom of the frame.  By the time the third inning ended, the A's had collected four runs on four hits (including a two-run dinger), plus a gift error courtesy Tony "Sow's Ear" Graffanino.  The Tinkerer is still trying to make him into a silk purse with platooned starts.  He's only fooling himself.

Wright gave up three more runs, including another tater, over the next two innings.  It was 7-1 Oakland, and you could almost here the toes tapping inside the Sox dugout, impatiently waiting for this stupid sweep to be over so they could get on an airplane and fly home.  Doubtlessly another big, fat paycheck is waiting for them on the kitchen table.

The Sox bullpen shut down Oakland the rest of the way, but so what?  The Sox somehow managed to leave eight men on base while only collecting eight hits all day.

Sure, line up to buy tickets for this.  Flush your wallet down the toilet and save yourself the aggravation instead.
