Hard luck Buehrle.

August 16 at Oakland

Short Take:  More dumb baserunning, too.

Pre-Game Report

Will our White Sox ever play a good ballgame on the west coast?  Mark Buehrle was brilliant through eight innings.  All he has to show for it was a big fat loss, his ninth of the season.  Sox lose 1-0 at Oakland.

The Sox out-hit Oakland.  They committed no errors to Oakland's one.  They also did squat to win this game.

Buehrle made one mistake.  Jermaine Dye reached down and poked the second pitch of the second inning for a round-trip back to homeplate.

What a joke.  Buehrle basically mows through Oakland the remainder of the way, but to no avail.  He was in trouble in the seventh giving up a leadoff double.  No problem.  He gets the key strikeout, then a fielder's choice, and finally a fine stab by thirdbasemen Joe Crede to end the inning.

Crede had several nifty plays, two of them back-to-back in the third inning.

The few Sox scoring chances were squandered by stupid baserunning.  What Magglio Ordonez was thinking trying to steal third base with Paul Konerko at bat is anybody's guess.  Perhaps he was emboldened to make an attempt knowing he leads the team with a laughable six steals this season?  He was out on a close play.  So naturally Konerko comes through with a solid base hit four pitches later.  No rbi--thanks to Magglio.

A two-out double by Jose Valentin came to nothing.  Frank Thomas popped out twice with runners in scoring position, including the final out of the game.

Yeah, we'll go get 'em tomorrow.  Yeah, sure... that's the ticket!

Tinkerer Update:

Mark Buehrle

Gave up one dinger and paid the price with a loss.  Eight innings, five hits, two strikeouts, and one walk (intentional).  Nice offense!
