Enquiring Sox Fans want to know!

If only Sox Fans knew...
Last Series vs. Oakland
  • The Sox won 2 of 3 games from the A's at Comiskey Park, May 3-5.
  • The Sox also outscored Oakland, 18-6.
Totally Biased Sox Notes
  • The last time the Sox traveled to Oakland, the A's pounded the Sox, outscoring them 32-5 in a 3-game sweep.
  • Despite posting a decent 15-18 record against the AL West thus far in 2002, the Sox have been horrendous on the West Coast, posting a 4-11 record in away games against the AL West, and have a 2-8 record in Seattle, Anaheim, and Oakland.
  • Oakland has owned Maggs, as well.  In 44 games against Oakland, Maggs has a career average of .264, the lowest of any team that he has at lease faced in 40 games in his career.
  • Taking away a bad outing against Anaheim (6 ER in 3.1 IP), Danny Wright has been much more effective as of late.  Since June 28, he has recorded fewer than 5 strike outs twice (July 11 at Detroit, August 11 vs. Seattle), and more importantly has only walked more than 3 batters once (July 4 vs. Detroit).
Know thy Enemy!
  • Despite having the second smallest payroll in the MLB at $40 million, the Athletics have the 8th best record in baseball, and the 6th best in the American League.  More importantly, since May 25, the A's have posted a record of 48-25, best in the AL and second best in baseball only to the surging Braves.
  • Since joining the A's, ex-Sox second baseman Ray Durham has hit .270 with a homer and 5 RBIs in 14 games.
  • Miguel Tejada is quickly establishing himself as one of the best new-wave AL offensive shortstops.  Thus far in 2002, Miguel leads Oakland in batting average (.301), home runs (27), RBI (98), and slugging (.509).
  • Don't worry about holding the runner.  Oakland has stolen only 26 bases all season, by far the lowest total in the Majors.  Only four other teams have yet to swipe 50 bags this summer; Detroit (49), the Cubs (49), San Diego (45), and Cleveland (38).
What to watch for!
  • Will the Sox snap that ridiculously long road losing streak to Oakland?
  • Can the Sox give up fewer than 4 home runs in 1 inning this time around?
  • How humiliated will we be come Sunday afternoon?
