Pre-Game Report

What would the state of baseball in Saint Petersburg be today if Jerry Reinsdorf had succeeded in moving our Sox to Florida back in 1988?  Probably EXACTLY like it is today with the Devil Rays.  Watching the D-Rays play ball is like a mirror reflection of the ineptitude of our Sox.  It took twelve innings and the Sox stranded seventeen runners, but the Sox simply could not lose to this brain-dead outfit from St. Pete.  Tampa Bay more loses than the Sox win, 8-5.

Hey, they even play in a sea of empty blue seats, the majority of those filled with fans for the other team.  Could our own chairman's organization do any worse working their losing formula to disenfranchise Tampa Bay's baseball market?  Sox Fans, the chairman deserves Tampa!

Tanyon Sturtze must be the dumbest man in baseball.  Though he has a Ritchie-esque 11 losses already, he threw a fit over getting pulled from the game with a 5-1 lead after five innings.  Oh baby, you deserve whatever fate your teammates deal you after a performance like that!

Even though Gary Glover was lit like a Roman candle in the second inning, Tampa Bay was clueless how to protect the lead.  Like a certain team well-known by Sox Fans, the Devil Dogs spent the next ten innings in a comatose state.  Sox pitching held them to just three hits in that span!

So it was the Sox who found themselves in the unusual role as the hunter rather than the hunted.  Like a puppy playing with a red rubber ball, they just barely understood what the hell they were doing.  Scoring opportunities in the third, fifth, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings came to absolutely nothing.

Good ol' Devil Dogs.  Sox scoring opportunities in the fourth and eighth innings reached pay-dirt for two runs each--just enough to tie this stupid game back up!  Not even stranding seventeen runners was too much for the Sox not to blow this win.

Boy, Tampa Bay sucks.

Finally in the twelfth inning, Royce Clayton came home from first base on Aaron Rowand's double.  Tampa Bay gave the Sox two insurance runs, one with a hit batsman and the other a walk, each committed with the bases loaded.

What a crappy ballgame.  At least the Sox won.

3 for 6 plus a walk.  Three runs scored and one batted in, plus two stolen bases.  A tidy day's work for the Sox leadoff man.
