Enquiring Sox Fans want to know!

If only Sox Fans knew...
Last Series vs. Minnesota
  • Twins won 2 of 3 from the Sox at Comiskey.
  • Twins outscored the Sox 26-15.
Totally Biased Sox Notes
  • Paul Konerko, where have you gone?  More importantly, where is your bat?  Since the All-Star Break, Konerko's batting average has fallen 16 points (from .330 to now .314).  He has also only driven in 9 runs in 16 games and has a rather low 2 home runs (and hasn't hit one since July 12).
  • Welcome back, Frank?  Frank Thomas, on the other hand, has been hot as of late.  His average is now up to around .250 (about 10 points higher than when he was benched), and also has hit the ball for power recently, with 3 homers and 5 RBIs in his last 5 games.
  • And for more bad news, Jon Garland has struggled lately.  He's lost his last two starts to drop his record to 8-8 and in that time span has lasted 3 and 4.1 innings in his two starts (and has been shelled for 15 ER), which has raised Garland's ERA nearly a point from 4.61 to 5.46.
  • So much for that 2nd-half surge.  The Sox have started the 2nd half in pathetic fashion, going 7-10 in their first 17 games.  (Way to go, guys!)
Know thy Enemy!
  • Joe Mays the Sox-killer is back!  In his career, Mays is 6-0 lifetime against the Sox with a career ERA of (get this) 2.67.  That's nearly a point lower than any other team Mays has pitched more that 50 innings against, and nearly two points lower than Joe's career ERA of 4.40.  And those 6 wins account for almost 20% of Joe's 31 career wins, despite the fact that he has less than 10% of his career games against the Sox (10 of 119) and has only pitched 7% of his total innings versus our Sox (67.2 of 587.2).
  • The only current Sox player who's had any kind of real success against Mays is Jose Valentin, who has a lifetime .333 BA vs. Joe with 2 dingers.
  • Think that white roof helps?  The Twins' 34-18 record at home is 2nd in the American League only to the Yankees.
  • So much for that 2nd half collapse.  The Twins have exploded out of the gate in the 2nd half this season, going 13-3 in their first 16 games.  In their last 10, they have only lost 1 game (to the Sox... we needed to save SOME pride their).
What to watch for!
  • How much do the Sox really suck?
  • Will Kenny Williams make another blockbuster deal for a guy with an ERA of over 5.00 in AAA?  At least he spelled his name right this time.
  • Will Jerry Manuel make Foulke pitch in some sadistic scheme to make him lose his confidence again?
  • Who cares?  We suck.
