Pre-Game Report

Okay, who are these guys dressed up like White Sox and who stole the ones we've wasted nearly three months supporting?  The Dead Sox are missing in action--and nobody cares.  The Sox play solid baseball for a second straight night and put the pipe to the Kansas City Royals, 9-1 the final.  This is the same hapless bunch that embarrassed us just last week.

If we were Flubs fans, we would be calling sports-blab radio breathlessly explaining how close we are to winning the division.  What dolts...

Everything that had been missing from the Sox the past twelve weeks was fixed and working again tonight.  Specifically...

Solid pitching from the young rotation.  Gary Glover made it past the six inning hump that it seemed he would never accomplish.  He allowed just one earned run, five hits, across seven innings.  Not bad for a guy forced into the rotation because nobody else can be trusted to take the ball every fifth day.  The gapping hole left by Jim Parque's disappearance was never fixed.

Yeah, we know it's Sox Fans fault.  Reinsdorf's crew has it figured that lack of support is what prevents them from building a winner.  If that's true, maybe we Sox Fans ought to start signing the talent ourselves?

Fundamentally sound ball.  The baserunning gaffes have been terrible all season, though somehow Gary Pettis has kept his job.  So it was a refreshing change to see Magglio Ordonez check back into second base safe (you can't take these things for granted anymore), then take full advantage of  a lousy throw to advance two bases and score.  That was the first run of the game.  Tony Graffanino followed with a dinger, and the Sox led 2-0.

Timely hitting late.  We've seen the Sox hit homeruns early in the game all season.  Besides Graffanino's dinger, Aaron Rowand and Magglio Ordonez each had dingers in the third inning to extend the Sox lead.  What is gratifying is seeing the team score runs late, too.  Royce Clayton picked up an rbi single in the sixth.  Graffanino did the same in the seventh.  Man of the Hour, Magglio Ordonez, hit his second dinger of the game in the eighth--especially gratifying since it came off that punk of a Sox reject Roberto Hernandez.

Sox go for the sweep Sunday afternoon.  They're passing out Carlton Fisk bobbleheads, though it will take a miracle for Carlton to show up at Comiskey from his southwest suburban home.  If they trade Frank Thomas, are Sox Fans prepared for similar mistreatment from a former star?

That's life as a Sox Fan.
