Pre-Game Report

Everyone is going to focus on the ninth inning meltdown by the Sox pitching staff, supposedly costing the team the win.  Bullshit.  The Sox blew this game in the third inning, fourth inning, and fifth inning.  Seven men left on base, five of them in scoring position with two out.

Unbelievable.  Sox lose 5-3 to Kansas City, coughing up three runs in the ninth inning including a walk-off dinger.

Swept in Kansas City.  Would our team's chairman care to share his plans for making this a first-class organization--22 seasons later?  Would he like to share insights about being "wrong" to crow to his doubters in the division champion's clubhouse in September, 2000?

Jerry Reinsdorf, your silence is deafening.

It was 92 degrees at game time, and the only Sox pitcher worthy of the role assigned him by overly-optimistic Sox management was dealing for the Sox.  Mark "Get me the hell outta here!" Buehrle was about as sharp as Sox Fans could have hoped for given the playing conditions.

He got tagged in the first inning for a dinger, then settled down, scattering three hits across the next seven innings.  Nobody got a free pass all day, while Buehrle struck out four.  A brilliant performance.  He deserves to pitch for a franchise serious about winning championships.  Saint Louis would be an outstanding choice.

Why was he nursing a one-run lead going into the ninth?  Because the Sox offense sucks, of course.  Royce Clayton's two-out two-rbi double in the second inning was as close to a clutch hit as they managed all day.  The usual gaffes at the plate and the basepaths left the Sox with three measly runs for ten hits and a gift error.

So Buehrle gets punked by Carlos Beltran, executing the cheapest trick in the book, stepping out of the box for time on the first pitch of the ninth inning.  The next one was tagged.  Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel goes to the bullpen for Damaso Marte in a save situation, while his "closer" Antonio Osuna sits in the bullpen.  Homerun, game over.

This team sucks, and all the true culprits--starting with Jerry Manuel, his staff, and all the yes-men hired by Jerry Reinsdorf --are keeping their jobs while Kenny Williams threatens everyone else.

Beyond pathetic.

Sox Clubhouse "Pick to Click" Winner

Mark Buehrle

Nursed a one-run lead into the ninth inning with 4 K's and no walks in 92 degree heat.  Still stood to be the winner in spite of anemic offense, but Manuel and the bullpen finished off another Sox loss.
