Pre-Game Report

It would have been the most noteworthy highlight to a season that so far has been very disappointing.  It would have been sweet justice for Sox Fans who suffer lousy teams and losing baseball in utter anonymity even in their own city.  It could have been the beginning of a glorious march back over .500 and towards the A.L. Central title--maybe even more.  It could have been all those things.  But it wasn't.

The Sox lose the final game of the three-game series against the Cubs 9-2.  They split the season series 3-3.  They fall back to two games under .500, and lose the game they picked up on first-place Minnesota from yesterday.

It sort of sums up the season so far, doesn't it Sox Fans?  Goin' nowhere fast.

The Sox offense looked positively silly most of the afternoon against Matt Clement.  The man sports an overgrown Brillo pad stuck to his chin that even Christian Guzman can't compete with.  Apparently our advanced scouts can't find their way up the CTA Red Line to give our hitters a clue on this guy either.

Fourteen strikeouts.  That's all you need to know about this game.  The only regular that didn't K was Ray Durham.  He made up for it by grounding into a double-play.  Teammates Paul Konerko, Jose Valentin, Mark Johnson, and Royce Clayton never reached base all day.  They were a combined 0 for 13 with five strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Mark Buehrle finally wilted from lack of support.  He was touched for three runs in the third, and five runs in the sixth.  Rocky Biddle baled him out, but himself gave up a tater in the ninth while walking three and striking out two.

It was a long day, Sox Fans.

An off-day leads to another fabulous half-price promotion Tuesday night versus Detroit at Comiskey.  Everyone getting in cheap will have plenty of money left over for spending on beer--not that the added revenue to the Sox will ever find its way towards fixing what keeps this team stuck in neutral.

Acquiring another starting pitcher would be nice.  Of course we can't afford the team we have now, so watch out.  If July offers any hope for Sox Fans anything, it will be with the cast of characters we've already got.  Such is our lot.  Not that anyone--even in the Chicago media--much cares.

2 for 4, including a double and one rbi.  Struck out twice, but it was hardly noteworthy in a lineup that K'd 14 times.
