Paul making the most of his chance

MINNEAPOLIS -- Josh Paul spent the final days of Spring Training wondering like the rest of those who follow the White Sox whether or not he would make the team.

Then the answer came.

"Getting sent down is miserable," he recalled.

What might be even more miserable is getting called up, playing about as well as you can, then getting sent back down again.

Since joining the Sox from Triple-A Charlotte on June 13 when starting catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr went on the disabled list, Paul has hit safely in all four of his starts, going 7-for-13 with three RBIs.

It was Paul's two-run double in the fifth inning on Tuesday that snapped a 4-4 tie and gave the Sox a lead they wouldn't lose in a 15-7 victory over Minnesota.

Paul lost the spring battle for the backup catcher's spot to Mark Johnson, which has been something of a ritual for the last three seasons. Paul had won the first two years.

Well, the battle is on again.
