Short-handed bullpen fails Sox

MINNEAPOLIS - It was just the White Sox luck that on the day they needed a rainout, they found themselves inside the Metrodome as it poured off and on all day long.

Hours before the Sox were to take on Minnesota in the long-awaited first game of the season between the clubs, closer Antonio Osuna was called home to Mexico where his wife, Arcelia, was about to give birth to their second child.

Add in the unavailability of left-hander Damaso Marte due to a sore shoulder and the Sox bullpen was horribly understaffed at the worst time imaginable.

And oh, the Sox had decided to not recall right-hander Matt Ginter from Triple-A Charlotte, leaving them with a six-man bullpen in an American League park for the first time all year.

Efforts to get Ginter to Minneapolis from Pawtucket, Rhode Island in time for Monday night's game failed, and ultimately, so did the Sox, who blew a three-run lead and lost 5-4 to drop their fourth straight and fall seven games behind the Twins in the AL Central.
