Ritchies blames self for loss

Todd Ritchie did everything he could to give the White Sox a chance Friday night, but he didn't come away with any satisfaction from a two-hit effort.

It was the four walks that spoiled Ritchie's night, especially when two of them scored.

"When you go out there and walk the leadoff hitter in the eighth, to me it's unacceptable," Ritchie said. "I'm embarrassed about it. I want to have a few [games] where I can talk about wins and how the game went because I won it, not because I made some mistakes to lose it. It's good to go out there and throw seven innings, but I want to do better."

Before the game Manuel stressed the importance of Ritchie's start. Ritchie had compiled a 9.00 earned-run average in his previous six starts and had a 1-6 record since May 9.

"We're kind of looking for a big outing at any point," Manuel said. "He's a guy we anticipate giving us a lot of innings and a lot of different things. Part of it is not his fault because we haven't always been productive when he has pitched. We'd rather see us being non-productive and him being good than him not being good and us being productive at this time."

Ritchie was good and the Sox were non-productive.
