Enquiring Sox Fans want to know!

If only Sox Fans knew...
 Last Series vs. Cubs
  • The Sox and the Cubs have not met this year.
  • The Sox, however, won 4 of 6 from the Cubs last year, including 2 of 3 in Wrigley.
  • So far against the NL this year, the Sox are 3-3
  • Be happy they aren't those Sox-killing Expos.
 Totally Biased Sox Notes
  • Keith Foulke has lost the closer job. It look as now the job belongs to Osuna, with 2 saves in the last two days.
  • The projected Sox starters have fared well against the Cubs in their career.  The three have a combined 2.57 ERA against the Cubs (4 ER on 14 IP), but only Buehrle's 2 ER in 8 IP came in a start.  Both Glover's 1.1 scoreless IP and Garland's 2 ER in 4.2 IP have come from the 'pen.
  • Ray Durham has become somewhat of a Cub killer.  The Sox 2B (who has played in all 24 Cub-Sox games, by the way),  has a career batting average of .359 (37-103), and his 1 home run, 2 triples, and eight doubles give him a career slugging percentage of .505.  Added to that, Durham is hitting .370 (12-54) at Wrigley. He sure pushes Slappy Caruso to the wayside!
  • The Sox are 13-11 against the Cubs since the interleague series began way on July 16, 1997 in Comiskey Park (In case you were wondering, the game was won by the Cubs, 8-3 and the pitchers of record were Kevin Foster and Jaime Navarro). A time best forgotten, I guess.
  • Sandy Alomar was put on the DL and Matt Ginter was sent down, so Mr. Versatility Josh Paul and fast guy Willie Harris may see some time against the Cubs.
  • Tony Graffanino has won the third baseman job. I didn't know it was up for contention
 Know thy Enemy!
  • The Cubs have a team ERA of 4.19, good enough for 10th best in the NL, however, they have a league-low .234 team batting average, a 13th-place team Slugging Percentage of .387, and a second-to-worst team OBP of .312.  Bravo.
  • The "Friendly Confines" haven't been to friendly to the Cubs, who are 10-17 at home  (Luckily, no one's watching the game).
  • Sammy Sosa's 44 RBIs are the lowest for any MLB player with more than 15 home runs.  In fact, he's the only player to have less than 45 RBIs, but more than 20 home runs.
  • The projected Cub starters have a career ERA of 3.09 against the Sox.  Wood has given up 9 ER in 20 IP of work and Lieber has allowed 14 ER in 47 IP of work.  Matt Clement, however, will be a mystery to Sox hitters (uh oh, sort of like the AL West), as he has only faced Royce Clayton in his career.  Surprisingly, The Choice is 3-3 against Clement (all singles, but hey!)
 What to watch for!
  • How bad do the Cubs suck?
  • Will WGN, Fox, and FSN show more close ups of Jesus Prior eating sunflower seeds on the bench than the actual game footage?
  • Can the Sox use this high energy series as a spark for the rest of the 2002 campaign?
  • Who are the Twins playing?
  • Will Jose Valentin show Shammy up again?
  • Will Tony G. stay on his hot streak?
